Canterbury is often referred to as a household. The running of the ancient household depended on the cooperation of many people. The parable of the talents in Matthew 25 describes a household where everyone bears responsibility and is encouraged to take initiative and finally enters into joy as the overall unit grows and prospers. As senior warden, I occasionally fill in for the rector if he is unable to attend certain events. I consult with the Vestry and Rector by email or in person about upcoming business, explain actions of the Vestry or bishop to the congregation, and pray for the church and individuals in services and in private devotion.
I teach adult formation classes. In the last two years I have taught classes on the letters of St. Paul, the Gospel of John, and Luther and Erasmus. I help take the services of the church out to the community. Barney Iorio and I conduct evening prayer services Mondays at Central New Mexico Correctional institution in Los Lunas, and we bring the prayers of the prisoners to Canterbury. I also take communion to two individuals at Princeton Place nursing facilities.
